First Two Bookings

Hi Everyone,

Training is over! It is nice to be done with training. The last few days of training were actually pretty interesting; we talked about poverty, other religions, and the countries we will be going to. We watched a really interesting documentary called "The Corporation"; it was about how companies mess up the world by the poor decisions they make that destroy human rights. Good movie, but it left us feeling overwhelmed and helpless.

One of the nights, Cross Fire ate food from the countries that we will be going to. We had peanut stew (a stew/sauce with peanut butter, tomato sauce, and chicken used to top things), cassava (like spinach--used on rice and fufu), fish, rice, fufu (boiled yams or plantains--tastes like bread dough/looks like play-dough, oranges, and Fanta. We ate with our hands. It was surprisingly good!! We ate with previous teamers who had gonna to West Africa; their insights into the culture were very interesting and helpful. After eating table from our food, we were able to try food from Denmark, Germany, and Southeast Asia. Next, we talked more with the teamers from previous Cross Fire teams. I really enjoyed all they had to tell us. So far, we will be going to Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Cameroon. We may also be going to Mali and Guinea.

Friday was our sending service. My parents, Lara, and Shanes (family friends) came for that. It was nice to see them and spend some time with them. Each team did a song for the sending service. There was a vast difference between the electric and acoustic teams--most of it was too loud for me!

On Saturday, we got on the road. Our first stop was a country church near Augusta, Wisconsin. We ate supper there, then Lindsay led some games with the youth. They were a lot of fun to play with. Sunday morning, we led sing-alongs for the Sunday School kids. We ended up leading longer than we expected, but it worked out fine. We also led worship. For the most part, it went really well. After worship, we headed off to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. At First Evangelical Lutheran, we had our first program on the road Sunday night. The program went well with some surprises, including getting mics half way through (we are an acoustic team!) and having a small audience. Monday we enjoyed our day off; we slept in! We also went to Madison, Wisconsin; where we walked on State Street and went to the capital. The time off was much needed and very enjoyable. In Beaver Dam, Adrienne and I stayed together at a host home. They were also hosting a couple from Israel--it was really interesting to hear their story about being Christians in Israel--not an easy thing to do!

After enjoying a slow paced morning on Wednesday (packing, reorganizing the van, and calling in to the YE office), we left for Roselle, Illinois, where we are now. Today, we will have time to work on team stuff (meetings, devos, learning French, rehearsals, etc.). Tonight, we will be helping with confirmation by leading songs and a skit.

I hope that you are all doing well. Thanks for keeping up with me!!

Peace,

Tiffany
